Okay all you surf dudes and dudettes, listen up. If you're looking for a CD that's packed full of the wildest and purest surf music in existence, I've found a disc to end all discs - The Diamondheads: Surf Guitar Instrumentals! Even the name of the band harkens back to the glory days of surf rock. What more needs to be said? Well, I’ll tell you... Right from the opening note The Diamondheads flood your auditory canals with wet, drippy, slappy, body drenching reverb. The listener's world is instantly transformed into a vast ocean of music. Waves of reverb rip through the air like a wicked undertow, dragging those unaware of the inherent power deep into the heart of the pulsing sea. The aptly titled lead track, Diamondhead Stomp, throws on the Doc Martens and crushes your skull with power, reverb, technical prowess, reverb and, dare I say, reverb. Each subsequent track continues to drive their point home — up to track 11. The eleventh song is where the proverbial icing on the cake begins. Yep, you got it, The Diamondheads rendition of their namesake, Diamond Head. And what a cover it is! This is what it's all about. The pure essence of surf rock. The Diamondheads rule Diamond Head! There's no respite after Diamond Head. The guys just keep hammering you, wave after wave, all the way through the final cut. Their reverb keeps drenching you, their power keeps rocking you and their undertow keeps drawing you into the sea. As an added bonus, for those of you who happen to be hardcore technique-o-philes, The Diamondheads are right up your alley, too! Never have I heard a band so technically perfect. Every note is spot on. Each drum fill is without peer. Not a glissando passes by that isn’t faithful to a mechanical metronome. These guys are just perfect. There’s no other way to put it.
